With great reviews and good hype surrounding the movie, Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 has opened with spectacular figures at the box office. The film released a day before the weekend began but that did not stop movie lovers from buying a ticket to this sci-fi fantasy movie. The S Shankar directorial, which is a sequel to Enthiran (in Tamil) and Robot (in Hindi), was released on 10,000 screens worldwide and it has worked in the film s advantage.
According to Box Office India, the movie has already grossed Rs 80 crore (across all formats) at the box office in India alone. The movie released in the UK, the US, Australia and New Zealand among other countries and it has earned Rs 59 lakh (Australia), Rs 2.43 crore in the US, according to film trade analyst Ramesh Bala. The New Zealand market has recorded a collection of Rs 11.11 lakh.
While the numbers are still coming in, Ramesh has confirmed that the movie has surpassed the Rs 100-crore mark on the worldwide box office. This means that Akshay becomes the first Bollywood actor to have achieved the milestone. Akshay has ended the year on a good note, given that Gold did good business whereas Padman was an average outing.
Trade analysts have predicted that the movie will do better business over the weekend. The film has received good reviews and theatres have witnessed a growth in ticket sales today. It only goes to show that the movie will surpass the Rs 100-crore mark by tomorrow on the Indian box office.
The Hindi version of the movie has already recorded a collection of Rs 23 crore. 2.0 has recorded Rs 2.64 crore in Chennai, Rs 18.2 crore in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, and Rs 8.25 crore in Karnataka. The film registered Rs 4.15 crore in Kerala, making the Rajini and Akshay-starrer became the fourth-highest non-Malayalam opening day grosser in Kerala.
