Ranveer Singh let go off his Khilji and Simmba persona to transform into a boy from the streets of Mumbai for Zoya Akhtar s Gully Boy. We got a glimpse of his transformation in the trailer that released yesterday and we re eager to watch the movie. While we haven t stopped raving about the trailer, we also came across many people wondering if the movie is a biopic on the Mumbai-based rapper Divine, aka Vivian Fernandes. While the director cleared the air on the biopic rumours to say that it wasn t a biopic, the rapper shared his thoughts on the rumours only to agree with Zoya.
The music artist told BollywoodLife that Gully Boy is not a story about him, but it is a story of hip-hop from the gully. I never said that this was a biopic! This is the story of hip-hop, and hip-hop from the gully. This is the story of all of us, he said.
Speaking about collaborating with Zoya, he said, Zoya reached out to me in 2016 after seeing one of my gigs, and she wanted to turn this idea, the rise of gully hip-hop into a film. If it helped my message reach more people... I was on-board with that. We re eager to see the gully scene in Mumbai from the eyes of Ranveer!
Zoya had confirmed that the movie is a work of fiction. Take a look at this video:

We also asked Divine what he thought about the Gully Boy trailer. He said, I have been waiting for this and it s surreal to see this happen. From doing cyphers on the corners to watching the scene on the big screen... this is what dreams are made of.
Gully Boy releases on February 14. The film also stars Alia Bhatt and Kalki Koechlin in pivotal roles.
