A week before its release, the makers of Emraan Hashmi's Cheat India have changed the title of the film and the reason for the same is objections from CBFC. The film is now titled as, 'Why Cheat India'. Mumbai Mirror quoted a source as saying that the Examining Committee watched the movie last Thursday and said that the title was a point of discomfort as it was controversial and misleading when seen in the context of the film. The producers of 'Why Cheat India' released an official statement which stated that they mutually agreed to change the title.
"The CBFC had concerns about the title Cheat India. We had an extensive conversation with the Examining Committee and Revising Committee regarding the proposed change as the film has been in public domain for a year, and more importantly, because the theatrical teaser, trailer, and television promos had already been certified with the original title. This would lead to dual communication a week before the release. The duress of lack of time left us with no choice but to mutually agree to the new title, Why Cheat India," the statement read.
Here's the poster of Emraan Hashmi starrer with the new title:
Directed by Soumik Sen, Why Cheat India is the story of a con man who decides to take advantage of the academic world where there are very few opportunities and too many aspirants, and only the smartest can survive. Also starring Shreya Dhawanthary in the leading role, the film is set to hit the screens on January 18, 2019.
