To present a film like Zero to the audience requires a lot of bravery. An experimental film like it can go either way and we are glad that Indian filmmakers and actors are willing to take that risk without worrying about the box office consequences. Indian cinema deserves this kind of freedom to expand its horizons and it has to begin somewhere. We caught the press show of the film, because, as we have been telling you, it was difficult to contain our excitement after watching that cracker of a trailer more than a month ago. While anticipation was in the air, we were caught off guard when the man of the moment Shah Rukh Khan, himself, walked into the theatre, asking us to give the film a chance and watch it as a whole rather than dissecting its moments. And we later saw why.
The film, which has a judicious runtime of 2 hours and 44 minutes, gave us a lot of reasons to wonder throughout the film. And while we were focusing on the film, like the disobedient chimpanzee in the film, our mind was monkeying around, thinking the most random of things and coming up with theories and assumptions of its own. And while we are sure that you will be catching the film this weekend, we still thought of sharing some of our thoughts with you. No obviously, sharing every shred of thought that popped up into our heads will be inappropriate. So, we won't go there. But as much as the censorship of this site will allow, we will write.
Also, for the uninitiated, sharing thoughts about the film will mean that we will be doling out spoilers with every sentence. But if you didn't figure that out, don't worry the film won't be ruined for you. As for the rest, consider yourself forewarned. Here are some of the thoughts we had while watching Zero...
# What did Bauua Singh's dad Ashok do to amass such wealth that his son could literally throw money away?
# Why would a space scientist like Aafia Yusufzai Bhinder, who has come to India to bring Mission to Mars to life, be registered on Shaadi.com?
# Why would a world renowned space scientist, who has discovered water on the surface of Mars, be so floored by a show of colours and water here on Earth, that she would look past the fact that she was falling for the same man who had shamed her for her disability to move?
# Bauua Singh is all the boys I have met on Tinder ever.
# All men are the same!
# Katrina Kaif looks so HOT even with those mascara-smeared eyes. *sings Tere mast mast do nain*
# Did Katrina Kaif take notes from her Fitoor co-star Aditya Roy Kapoor to play an alcoholic on screen because she does it well.
# Damn, did Katrina just gave the crowd a middle finger? So like Ranbir Kapoor, no?
# This film is increasingly seeming to be like Aanand L Rai's previous film, Raanjhanaa.
# Anushka is sporting some really cool clothes in the film!
# Even as a dwarf, Shah Rukh Khan is the most romantic man ever...Gosh, if only guys were half the man that he is!
# Oh no, did he just leave a girl at the altar?! *tell myself to calm down...it's just a character*
# Wait, did Bauua just make causing accidents to get to your lady love cool? *shudders at the thought of the repercussions*
# Oh Kat is so lucky to kiss SRK for the second time in a film!
# Salman Khan's cameo in a Shah Rukh Khan film? *Saajan ji ghar aaye*
# Oh my God...that's Sridevi's last shot in a film ever... *cries in despair*
# Alia Bhatt trying to take selfies everywhere is SO ME!
# With Colour Yellow Productions and Red Chillies' logos in the background at the party, were the makers hinting at a success party for Zero?
# Why is Abhay Deol playing a bad guy? *sighs over the dimples*
# So the stars fall when Bauua is in love or do they fall when he has a clean heart?
# Why is Zeeshan Ayub playing a Raanjhanna-esque character?
# So there is biopic being made on Aafia?
# R Madhavan is so cute ya! *sings Zara zara on loop*
# Wow, getting into a space programme is not as daunting as it seemed to me as a child! *revives dreams of being an astronaut*
# Is there going to be a sequel to this called Zero Returns?
