The year 2017 witnessed some big celebrity weddings like those of Virat Kohli-Anushka Sharma, Zaheer Khan-Sagarika Ghatge, Neil Nitin Mukesh-Rukmini Sahay and even the rumoured nuptials of Ileana D Cruz-Andrew Kneebone. But 2018 was even bigger with superstars of Bollywood like Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, Priyanka Chopra and a few others tying the knot. A lot of prominent personalities let go off their single status this year. Here s a look at all the newlyweds of 2018:
Isha Ambani Anand Piramal
Nita and Mukesh Ambani s daughter Isha got engaged to Swati and Ajay Piramal s son Anand in September in Lake Como, Italy. Isha and Anand s sangeet on December 9 was the grandest sangeet witnessed in a long time in India with the whole of Bollywood assembling to mark their presence. They then got married in a traditional Gujarati wedding ceremony on December 12 at the Ambanis Mumbai home, Antilla. They followed this up by another reception.
Priyanka Chopra Nick Jonas
Next up was another grand wedding, that of Priyanka Chopra with her fianc , American Pop star, Nick Jonas. The duo had a Roka ceremony in Priyanka s Mumbai home and Nick soon presented a huge diamond ring to PeeCee, making their engagement official. The couple became man and wife on December 1-2 in a traditional Hindu ceremony as well as a Christian wedding at the royal Umaid Bhawan Palace in Jodhpur. This was followed by two separate wedding receptions in Delhi and Mumbai for PeeCee s industry and family friends. Yet another party is scheduled to take place in the US for the couple s friends abroad.
Deepika Padukone Ranveer Singh
The third big wedding, that took place on November 14-15 at Lake Como, Italy, was that of Bollywood heartthrobs Ranveer Singh and Deepika Padukone. They became man and wife after following both Konkani as well as Sindhi rituals, and the ceremonies were attended by only close friends and family. The duo then had three separate receptions one in Bengaluru and two in Mumbai. Their last reception, which was hosted mainly for their Bollywood friends, turned out to be a crazy party with all the celebs letting their hair down.
Sonam Kapoor Anand Ahuja
Another iconic wedding of the year which cannot be missed was that of Sonam Kapoor and industrialist fianc Anand Ahuja. And the May 8 wedding was a true Punjabi wedding with papa Anil dancing at the drop of the hat. While the main wedding pictures remained a guarded secret until the bride released them later, sneak peeks from the wedding and reception party kept surfacing online every now and then entertaining fans.
Neha Dhupia Angad Bedi
And just when we were getting over the craziness of Sonam-Anand s wedding, Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi dropped a bomb on us with their surprise wedding on May 10. The couple released pictures of a beautiful Anand Karaj ceremony at a Gurudwara in Delhi. Later, they threw a small post-wedding bash for close industry friends but the big Bollywood reception never came. Instead, the sweet news of Neha s pregnancy did. And now they even have a baby girl named Mehr Dhupia Bedi, all within a year of tying the knot. Now that s called a Fastrack Marriage!
Himmesh Reshammiya Sonia Kapoor
And following the two weddings of Sonam-Anand and Neha-Angad, Himesh Reshammiya too tied the knot in an intimate Gujarati wedding with girlfriend Sonia Kapoor on May 11. The singer-composer who got divorced from his wife of 22 years, Komal, got married at his Andheri, Lokhandwala home.
Milind Soman Ankita Konwar
There was also the surprise wedding of Milind Soman with his fellow marathon runner Ankita Konwar on April 22. He was married for three years between 2006 and 2009 to French actress-model Myl ne Jampano . But that didn t work out and he continued finding love and losing it until he met Ankita. The lovebirds had a traditional Maharashtrian style wedding in Alibaug.
Mahakshay Chakraborty Madalsa Sharma
Now, this one was a controversial wedding. Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Mithun Da s son, was to marry his girlfriend Madalsa Sharma, yesteryears actress Sheela Sharma s daughter, on July 7 in Ooty. But, that had to be postponed as rape and cheating charges had been filed by a person against the groom and his mother Yogita Bali. He then got an anticipatory bail just in time to tie the knot with Madalsa on July 10 at papa Mithun s posh Ooty hotel.
Shriya Saran Andrei Koschee
South sensation Shriya Saran got married to her Russian beau, tennis player-businessman Andrei Koscheev in a Hindu ceremony on March 12. It was a hush hush affair attended by mostly close friends and family and the wedding took place at the actress Lokhandwala residence as per reports. This was later followed by a grand celebration in Udaipur.
Phew! We must say it was a year filled with iconic and high-profile weddings. It was almost like the entire world was getting married. But we cannot deny the fact that we did enjoy looking at the pretty brides in their extravagant avatars and definitely enjoyed all the wedding shenanigans. What about you?
