Kayamkulam Kochunni starring Nivin Pauly and Priya Anand has become the second Malayalam movie to enter the 100-crore club after Mohanlal-starrer Pulimurugan. Directed by Rosshan Andrews, Kayamkulam Kochunni is a period drama and has done great business at the box office. Kayamkulam Kochunni is the first ever Malayalam cinema to be made on a huge budget of Rs 45 crore. And with the film grossing more than Rs 100 crores, Kayamkulam Kochunni has now become a profitable venture for the makers and second Malayalam film to enter such elite club.
Kayamkulam Kochunni features Nivin Pauly in the role of a highway bandit who robs the richer community only to give it to the poor. Kayamkulam Kochunni is being lauded for the VFX works and the cast which includes Mohanlal in a brief role. Mohanlal is seen playing Ithikkara Pakki in Kayamkulam Kochunni who mentors Nivin Pauly in the plot while Priya Anand is seen playing the leading lady in Kayamkulam Kochunni.

Upon release, Kayamkulam Kochunni raked in Rs 10 crore right on the first day of release and became the fastest ever Malayalam cinema to do so. Later, the film went on to earn Rs 50 crore in just 10 days of release and again became the fastest Malayalam film ever to do so. The film has been shot by ace Bollywood choreographer Binod Pradhan, who has worked in films like Rang De Basanti and Bhaag Milkha Bhaag. Made on the whopping budget of Rs 45 crore, it is one of the most expensive Malayalam films.
