Heard about El Dorado? The mythical South American city full of gold. Well, KGF Chapter 1 draws parallels to that fabled land that took away the lives of many greedy Spanish conquistadors and explorers. The setting for this film is that of the Kolar Gold Fields of Karnataka. We know the government shut down the mines in 2001 but the film traces the journey of a loyal henchman ganglord from the fifties to the eighties where Yash plays Raja Beriyappa aka Rocky. and believe us, it's a visual treat along with great screenplay, dialogues and art direction. The film will instantly remind you of gangster flicks like Once Upon A Time in Mumbai with its pace, dialogues and thrilling sub plots. Yash steals the show as the migrant Kannada Raja who wants to ride the world. After serving as a dreaded henchman, he is called to Bangalore to finish off the feared mining ganglord Garuda. Will he succeed in his mission? Will a journey to the dreaded Kolar Gold Fields change his outlook? The film has excellent production values and some of the dialogues are whistle-worthy. Yash steals the show with his presence. He is formidable, imposing and gives you a rush of adrenaline. The first half sets the tone nicely for the second half...
