Antariksham 9000 KMPH meta review: Critics are divided about the Varun Tej-starrer space adventure

After the great success of The Ghazi Attack, director Sankalp Reddy is back with another edge-of-the-seat thriller and its Antariksham 9000 KMPH, which has released today. The Varun Tej and Aditi Rao Hydari-starrer is a space adventure, a first for Tollywood and if the buzz is anything to go by, it is all anyone can talk about. Since it's inception, the film garnered a lot of attention. From the astronaut suits to the VFX work, everything about Antariksham looked perfect to the T and made one root for the film. However, the D-day is here and seemingly, the critics are divided about it.

Neeshita Nyayapati from Times of India gave it a 2.5 stars and said, "After directing a film like Ghazi, expectations were high on Sankalp when it came to his space thriller Antariksham, maybe even unreasonably so. While space films are a genre extremely rare in Indian cinema, let alone Telugu, the director must be lauded for even attempting to pull off something that s no mean feat. But, does his film work? Unfortunately for him and the audience, it only works in bits and pieces. the VFX too is plain okay, not leaving as much of an impression as it s supposed to."

However, Priyanka Sundar from Hindustan Times gave it a 4 star rating. She said,"Visually, film is a spectacle. The shots of astronauts floating in space or those of spacecraft look good. Keeping it simple and straight forward, with muted performances combined with good visuals and solid background score has made Antariksham a space film to watch out for. Director Sankalp s vision is to reach out for the stars but while keeping it real for the characters involved."

J Gudelli from Sify.com gave it 3 stars and said, "Given the director's partial resources, it should be appreciable for his attempt to tell a space thriller. He also sticks to the point and follows the template of this genre. The movie focuses on two or three missions and a small romantic thread but it mainly focuses on the subject without any deviation. The film completely belongs to director Sankalp Reddy, his team of technicians - art director and cinematographer. Coming to the performances, Varun Tej is convincing as the astronaut. Aditi is okay. Rahman/Raghu is decent."
