Our trade expert, Ganesh Aaglave, had predicted that 2.0 will be able to surpass the lifetime collections of Robot/Enthiran in just one day. We are talking about the Hindi version here. As predicted, 2.0 has really managed to go beyond that on its first day itself. Robot had released back in 2011 and was a hit and had accumulated a total collection of Rs 20 crore at the box office in its entire run at the theatres. 2.0 achieved that in just one day by earning Rs 20.25 crore. Expectations were obviously higher. Many felt with 4000 screens in its kitty, the film will earn a brilliant Rs 25 crore or more on its first day. But that didn't really happen.
Robot got a tremendous fan following that soon enough talks of the sequel began. Karan Johar presented the Hindi version of the sequel under Dharma Productions banner. It is said that this is the first Indian film that's entirely shot in 3D. Bankrolled by Lyca Productions, the film also stars Amy Jackson, Adil Hussain and Sudhanshu Pandey in pivotal roles. With 10000 screens globally, it is widest Indian release ever. The Hindi version, however, will need some push to better the numbers in the coming days. Many were considering 2.0 as the next film to see Baahubali level of cash flow at the box office. The start has been good if we consider the frenzy in Chennai, but we doubt if it can go anywhere near the Baahubali series.
