Freida Pinto will soon be seen in Mowgli, the live-action adaptation of The Jungle Book. The movie is directed by acclaimed filmmaker and actor, Andy Serkis and sees a darker version of the otherwise glossy and happy Rudyard Kipling story. The actress plays Messua, one of the first humans Mowgli comes across outside the jungle, in the movie. Many are unaware that The Jungle Book featured a village of people and Mowgli comes across the villager at one point in his life.
The new version of the classic tale will showcase that and more. In an exclusive interview to BollywoodLife, Freida shared that the movie will be a fresh take for those who haven t seen that side of the tale. The actress shed light on the original Jungle Book and told us that Andy has gone back to the roots of the story and is paying respect to the tale.
The actress also told that not only has her role not been explored greatly in the past, but her character enters into Mowgli s life at a pivotal moment of his life.
We haven t seen it in the other Jungle Books where you see the human life and village life. But I feel very lucky that the part that I come into the film is such a pivotal moment in Mowgli s life, she said, adding that her character is like a hug to Mowgli at a time when he is in despair and vulnerable.
