It's Christmas eve, fellas! We hope your stockings are up cause *sings Santa Claus is coming to town riding on a sleigh. Hey!* Ok, we will stop with the jingles but nothing takes away from the fact that it's probably the best time of the year. For you, me, us and even B-town celebs, who are all geared up to ring in X'mas! The in-house bashes have already begun and with the clock-ticking, it's going to get more merrier.
In fact, we recently caught with celebrity designer Ashley Rebello who is the stylish that Salman Khan turns to for styling. The costume-maker has been with the actor for over a decade now and their camaraderie has only multiplied with time. From Dabangg to now with Bharat, Rebello is the brains behind the many looks of the superstar and the enigma that is followed and adored by many. In an exclusive conversation with us, the designer revealed that Red is the colour of the season and what is Salman's favourite piece of clothing. Not just that, we also turned him into Santa and he truly has a wonderful gift for Sallu. Read excerpts here...
The entire town is decked up for the celebrations. What do you think is the color of the season? What are our fave celebrities wearing?
Well, red is definitely the colour of the season. Even with Salman, I did an ad film with him and I gave him a red suit - leather jacket, boots and t-shirt. I saw Malaika (Arora) wearing a red dress and every one is wearing red.
It's also time for all the tinsel town house parties. One star you think is the best dressed and why?
One who dresses up really nice and is always decked up, I'd say somebody like Malaika. She picks up the right things that suit her and suit her body. She is a style icon for the girls out there. I also like the way Saif (Ali Khan) dresses up. He is always dressed up for the occasion. Be it a party or formals, you can't pick anything that's wrong in his outfits.
Now we all know about Salman Khan's swag and charm, tell us how difficult or easy it is for you to style the style icon himself?
Yes, this is my 10th year with him and I have survived and I think we have done a very good job. I keep re-inventing (with him). A lot of people like to see him in a particular way, and I keep telling them you can just see him in a leather jacket, jeans and t-shirt. So, I keep on experimenting with him and sometimes he likes and sometimes he doesn't and he says no but I try. I wouldn't call it difficult, he is a very easy person to work with. I don't give him things that doesn't suit him. Sometimes I try with trends but he would say, 'You know Ashley, I'm not one of the younger stars.' One has to dress up according to the way they are. You don't see Shah Rukh, Aamir Khan dressing up like these trendy, young actors. They dress their age and so does Salman.
What is his favorite piece of clothing? And what is something you could never convince him to wear?
He loves jeans, he doesn't part with them at all and t-shirts. There are tonnes of jeans and tonnes of t-shirts in his wardrobe. Shiny clothes are something that are difficult to convince him to wear. He doesn't like sequins but sometimes he wears, cause I coax him.
One winter trend that you think made the most number of appearances this time around? and One trend you wish doesn't appear next year?
I do see long coats and then bomber jackets are huge this season. Denim also especially with people in Mumbai, it's an easy option. I think those big floral suits look hideous and nobody looks nice in those.
How can our readers make their #OOTD classier this Christmas? What are the dos and don'ts?
Well, Christmas is the time for giving and sharing. First and foremost give away your old clothes cause you're collecting dust in your wardrobe. And re-inventing has become huge. So, you can go to your local stores and a lot of bling and badges that you can just sew on to your jackets.
Before signing off, If you had to be Santa for Salman what would you gift him and why?
I would gift him tons and tons of proposals from prospective girls to get married soon. All entries open.
