Every time we say, content is the king but 2018 has been the year, where the audience has made content the real king and preferred it over huge stars and big-budgets. In fact, with humongous numbers, we can easily say that it's a welcome change that moviegoers are accepting new subject, which will encourage our filmmakers to do more experimental cinemas in the coming days. Talking about the surprise hits of the year, let's check out the list...
Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety - Rs 108.71 crore
With the success of the Pyaar Ka Punchmana franchise, we realised that director Luv Ranjan definitely knows how to make a film which strikes a chord with the youth and he repeated it with Sonu Ke Titu Ki Sweety. The urban rom-com, which was potentially Pyaar Ka Punchnama 3 garnered a great footfall and surprised everyone by entering the elite Rs 100 crore club, as no big names were associated to the film.
AndhaDhun - Rs 72.50 crore
The trailer of Ayushmann's AndhaDhun was loved by everyone but it had a sense of being an experimental cinema, which will have limited appeal. Apparently, the film had an average opening day but soon, with rave reviews and a positive word-of-mouth, the thriller witnessed a huge jump in the collections and became a hit at the ticket windows. Interestingly, AndhaDhun has become the highest rated Indian film of the year with a score of 9 out of 10.
Stree - Rs 129.67 crore
Rajkummar Rao is undoubtedly one of the most versatile actors we have in the industry but he has always been considered to be an art hero or a parallel cinema star. But with Stree, he proved that he is one of the most commercially viable stars. The out-of-the-box content received immense praises from the critics and audience and went on to become the biggest hit of the lead stars.
Badhaai Ho - Rs 136.80 crore
2018 is the year of Ayushmann Khurrana. After AndhaDhun, the actor came up with another brilliant story through Badhaai Ho. The light-hearted family entertainer had all the elements, which needs to be a box office success and as expected it shattered many records at the ticket windows.

After Mardaani, Rani Mukerji came back on the silver screen after four years with Hichki, which was based on Front of the Class by Brad Cohen. With Rani's extraordinary performance and entertaining yet relevant plot, the film became the audience's favourite and a sleeper hit at the box office.
