The Kapil Sharma Show season 2 went on air this weekend. This time, we also had Bharti Singh and Krushna Abhishek in the line-up. The first episode was quite a riot, especially when Chandan Prabhakar and Ranveer Singh poked fun at how heartbroken he was at his crush Deepika Padukone's marriage. The start when Chandan Prabhakar took jibes at Kapil Sharma's unemployed phase was also entertaining. We must say that the presence of Sara Ali Khan and Ranveer Singh did a lot to make the episode a fun-filled one. Both of them seemed to be genuinely having a lot of fun on the show. In the new additions, it was nice to see Krushna Abhishek and Kapil Sharma together. They did a segment together and the Saturday one was quite nice. The show is Kapil Sharma's second comeback this year after Family Time With Kapil Sharma, which tanked badly due to Kapil's health issues. Here's our review of the first episode...
What's hot...
Did the first episode manage to make us laugh? Yes, it did and that is a good sign for Kapil Sharma. The star comedian seems to have benefited immensely from his long break and his timing was bang on. Some of his original swag might have reduced a bit but his expressions and dialogue delivery were on point. He was particularly impressive in the unemployment joke phase and when he was being teased about Deepu's wedding. After Kapil, it is Chandan Prabhakar who shone brightly. His presence seemed to ease out the comedian, who might have been a little nervous. Amongst the new entries, Krushna Abhishek's banter with Kapil was better than the one with Bharti Singh. A pat on the back to the writing team as some of the punchlines were truly hilarious. Kapil struck his forte of middle-class humour and aced it.
What's not...
While Kapil and Chandan excelled, the same could not be said of Kiku Sharda and Sumona Chakravarti. Honestly, Kiku is getting a little repetitive as Laccha with his expressions and dialogue delivery. The content team really needs to rework on these two characters. They are fab actors and can surely contribute more. They have competition from Sunil Grover's Kanpur Wale Khurana's on the same time slot and need to be on their toes. Even Navjot Singh Sidhu could do with some original ideas. His template of sher-shayari, thoko and laughing non-stop is getting kind of jaded irrespective of how much the celebs enjoy it.
Verdict
The first episode was undoubtedly a laugh riot, so season two has begun on a humorous note. However, there is a need for innovation when it comes to the skits and use of actors. Kapil Sharma is in wonderful form and it's really the creative team that needs to be a little edgier!
