Yesterday, two-big ticket films, Thalaivar Rajinikanth's Petta and Thala Ajith's Viswasam arrived at the box office and as expected both the ventures opened with big numbers at the ticket windows. Despite both the mega-budget movies receiving thunderous responses, a huge surprise came as Viswasam enjoyed a bigger opening day than Rajinikanth's Petta. This victory is commendable for the Thala Ajith starrer as it has lesser screens than Petta across Tamil Nadu.

Though, Petta has beaten Viswasam by a huge margin in the international markets as Thalaivar enjoys a huge fan base overseas. Since Petta has received average reviews from the cinegoers, it will be interesting to see how it will perform over the weekend in the domestic market. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, it also stars Nawazuddin Siddiqui, Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha and Simran Bagga in pivotal roles. Our critic, Gautham Pattikonda, gave the film two-and-a-half stars and wrote, "All said and done, watch Petta for Rajinikanth to go back in time and relive the 90s era of the superstar."
On the other hand, Thala Ajith's Viswasam, which also features Nayanthara in a lead role is directed by Siva. The film marks the fourth collaboration between the director and Ajith after Vedhalam, Veeram and Vivegam. Apart from the lead cast, it also features Vivek, Thambi Ramaiah, Yogi Babu, Bose Venkat and Kovai Sarala in pivotal roles. So, out of these two films, which is your pick for the weekend?
