The biopic on yesteryear actor N.T.Rama Rao has released now and the response to the film has been overwhelming. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, NTR Kathanayakudu stars Nandamuri Balakrishna and Vidyan Balan in lead roles. And the film seems to have taken off to a screamer. According to report, NTR Kathanayakudu has earned a gross collection of Rs 21 crore right on first day of release which is from the Telugu states. This is the highest ever for any Balakrishna film and bats Gautamiputra Satakani which held the previous record of Rs 11.5 crore approximately. In the US, NTR Kathanayakudu had earned a gross collection of $500,000 just from the premiere shows and is also the highest ever for a Balakrishna film in the US.

NTR Kathanayakudu portrays the entry and rise of legendary actor N.T. Rama Rao into films and how his focus shifted from films to politics. Balakrishna's portrayal as his father NTR is drawing great appreciation from audience and critics. Vidya Balan makes her debut in Tollywood with the NTR biopic and the Tumhari Sulu actress steals the show with her portrayal of Basavatarakam, wife of NTR.
