Being branded as the 'serial kisser' in the past, Emraan Hashmi has broken that image and is ready to entertain us with his new version (Emraan 2.0). The actor will be seen playing the role of a conman in Cheat India directed by Soumik Sen. Cheat India's trailer was released a few days ago leaving audience' impressed. The film sheds light on the loopholes in the Indian Education system. Hashmi will essay the role of Rakesh Singh, a middleman who earns from the spoilt brats and helps the needy with a bright mind. The day when the makers unveiled the trailer, we caught up with the actor. While chatting with us, Emraan spoke about the underlying message that his film promotes, the reason why one must watch Cheat India, his take on our education system and much more.
Speaking about what Cheat India will shed light on, Emraan said, "There is an immense amount of pressure on the kids because of the system that is rotten, regressive and stuck in the past. Kids are cheating because of this pressure. The system isn't helping them. Rote learning/ mugging is a big problem in our education system. Even if someone gets good grades because of it, there is no big accomplishment. It's not like people who fail are losers because they cannot crack exams, it is because the system which makes them feel so. When I say the system is rotten, it is also because of the middlemen who earn and give seats to undeserving candidates." When asked as to what will be the takeaway for the audience, Emraan quipped, "A revolution. We have been affected in our time, our kids are getting affected by the same and our future generation too will. Hence, with Cheat India, we aim to start a revolution and make people more accountable. And get rid off those middlemen who are making money."
Moving on to the character that is completely different from the ones he has played in the past, the 37-year-old added, "You don't have too many films where you get to play a court on court character, based on real-life people. For the same, you have to get the diction and body language right. And since I do not come from that world, I had to do a little bit of work. I met few people in Lucknow to inculcate the same." Further, when we asked if one can term this as second innings of his career, the actor replied, " I don't know about that. It is one of those the films that I am excited about. With this film, I want that the subject reaches to the people. The film sheds light on an issue which is of national importance. I don't know how the film will be perceived, whether good, average or bad. People will have their own opinion. Our sole motive was to just let the subject out."
Shifting from elaborating on his character to his co-star, Shreya Dhanwanthary, the actor added, Basically, she is a small town girl from Lucknow. Her character meets mine in Kota and the place, and then they eventually become friends. You will see her character build up in the coming promos of our film. It is too early to speak about the impact that her character has on mine." In between talking about Shreya's role in the film, Emraan mentioned that she is a great co-star and, "She doesn't seem like a newcomer and looks like an actor with experience. She has done great work in theatre and Youtube."
On a parting note, Emraan gave three reasons why everyone must watch Cheat India. "The film is relevant for students and parents. It will entertain you, will make you think. It is something that will shock you too. Many people don't know about the issue. Within these two hours, we have shed light on all everything is eating up our system alive," said Emraan.
