Oh no! Disney producer confirms Johnny Depp has been dropped from the Pirates of the Caribbean series but we can't imagine the franchise without Captain Jack Sparrow

Pirates of the Caribbean is a franchise that we have grown up with. Over the last 15 years, the franchise has offered five films, charting the misadventures of Captain Jack Sparrow, his aides, and enemies. But now, the chief of production at Disney, Sean Bailey, has confirmed to The Hollywood Reporter that they are going to drop Johnny Depp from the next film in the franchise. And while it might be imperative to the story, it is rather absurd for us who consider Depp to be synonymous with the series.

The new film, which is a reboot, is being written by Paul Wernick and Rhett Reese and will not feature the actor. Talking about it, Bailey told THR, "We want to bring in a new energy and vitality. I love the (Pirates) movies, but part of the reason Paul and Rhett are so interesting is that we want to give it a kick in the pants. And that s what I ve tasked them with." Rumours of Depp's ouster started when the original film s screenwriter, Stuart Beattie, called the star s time on the franchise "a great run." This will make Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales to be Depp's last appearance in the franchise.

Beattie feels no matter what Depp does next in his career, his Hollywood career high point will be defined by Sparrow and amassing more than $4 billion from the movies. He said: "I think Jack Sparrow will be his legacy. It's the only character he has played five times, it's the character he dresses up in to visit children in hospitals, it's what he'll be remembered for."
