Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma-starrer Zero released on December 21 but to unexpectedly mixed reviews. The star-studded film has been struggling at the box office with the multi-lingual KGF doing better than it. While we still hoped that the weekend would bring in some much-needed numbers at the ticket windows for the Aanand L Rai directorial, that didn't happen either.
Have a look at the tweet by trade analyst Taran Adarsh:
#Zero has clearly underperformed... Remained on similar levels over the weekend... No turnaround / big jump in biz... #Christmas holiday [tomorrow] should boost biz... Real test on Wed and Thu... Fri 20.14 cr, Sat 18.22 cr, Sun 20.71 cr. Total: 59.07 cr. India biz.

While the film collected Rs 20.14 cr on its opening day, Saturday saw a collection of Rs 18.22 cr and Sunday brought in another Rs 20.71 cr. The total earnings for the film stand at Rs 59.07 cr in India, which is not a great number to have, considering the fact that Zero is a Christmas release. While December 25 is expected to turn out to be good for the film, the true test will lie in the following days says Taran.
Films fight for the date because the festival ensures that their film receives a good turnout at the theatres. But that hasn't been the case with Zero. In fact, after Bajirao Mastani, this is the second film to clock in dismal figures on day 1. Bajirao Mastani still had to share its release date with SRK's Dilwale, which affected its turnout. But then the tables turned and it clocked in good business. Let's hope Zero manages to redeem itself too.
