2019 will be an exciting year for movie-buffs with quite a few interesting projects lined up to hit the big screens. In Telugu, from Chiranjeevi-starrer Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy to Prabhas' Saaho, audience will have their plate full with quite a few big ticket films in the pipeline for release. In Tamil, from Ajith's Pink remake to Thalapathy Vijay's film with Atlee, it will be an exciting year up ahead for movie lovers. As we step into another year, we list down the top films which will keep the audience busy in 2019:
NTR Biopic
The year will begin with a bang with the biopic on yesteryear legendary actor and politician N.T. Rama Rao hitting the marquee on January 9. Directed by Krish Jagarlamudi, NTR Biopic will release in two parts - Kathanayakudu and Mahanayakudu on January 9 and February 7 respectively. The film will have Nandamuri Balakrishna playing the titular role while Vidya Balan will be seen playing his wife Basavatarakam marking her debut in Telugu cinema.
Vinaya Vidheya Rama
Along with NTR Biopic, Ram Charan s Vinaya Vidheya Rama too will hit the large screens during Sankranti, keeping the audience busy during the festive season. Directed by Boyapati Sreenu, the film will have Ram Charan playing a massy role and is said to be a feast for the fans. Kiara Advani will be seen romancing Ram Charan in this one.
Petta
This is the biggest of all! Rajinikanth fans will begin the year with this massy entertainer which will also release during Pongal. Petta will have Rajinikanth playing a character which will personify his image amongst his fans and is said to be a treat for them. Directed by Karthik Subbaraj, the film features a slew of top stars including Bollywood actor Nawazuddin Siddiqui who will begin his career in Tamil cinema with this film.
Viswasam
And Ajith joins the race too! Pongal 2019 will be a memorable festival for Tamil movie-buffs with multiple big releases. Viswasam, starring Ajith, will also release at the same time and will have Thala playing a massy role. Directed by Siva, Viswasam is slated to be released on January 10 worldwide.
Yatra
This YSR biopic is slated to be released in February and is one of the biggest releases in the upcoming season. Malayalam star Mammootty will be seen stepping into the shoes of YS Rajasekhara Reddy in this biopic which is directed by Mahi Raghav.
Maharshi
Mahesh Babu s fans are eagerly waiting for the month of April in 2019 since it is the release time of his next film titled Maharshi. Directed by Vamshi Paidipally, the film will have the superstar sporting a bearded look which he hasn t done much in his recent films. Maharshi is slated to be released in April 2019 and is said to be a summer feast for fans.
Thalapathy 63
Thalapathy Vijay will join hands with Atlee again after Sarkar and the project is yet to be titled. Said to be another commercial potboiler, this Vijay-Atlee film is yet to go on the floors and is expected to be released during Diwali 2019, just like all his recent releases.
Ajith s Pink Remake
Bollywood film Pink is being remade in Tamil and Thala Ajith will be seen reprising the role played by Amitabh Bachchan in the original. The film was officially launched recently and will be bankrolled by Boney Kapoor. This yet-untitled film will be directed by H Vinoth and is expected to be released in mid-2019.
Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy
Chiranjeevi will be back with Sye Raa Narasimha Reddy which is based on the life of one of India s first freedom fighters Uyyalawada Narasimha Reddy. Directed by Surender Reddy, the film is expected to release during Dussehra 2019. Bollywood Shahenshah Amitabh Bachchan will be seen playing a brief role in Sye Raa and fans of the megastar are eagerly waiting for the release of this big-budget film in Tollywood.
Saaho
This Prabhas-starrer will be one of the biggest releases this year since it will have a multi-lingual release. Directed by Sujeeth, Saaho will have Prabhas performing heavy-duty stunts and will be seen sporting a stylish look. The recently released promo gave a glimpse of what can be expected from this action-thriller.
Rajini-AR Murugadoss
Superstar Rajinikanth will join hands with director A.R. Murugadoss for the first time and fans cannot hold their excitement about this project. The film is yet to go on the floors and is expected to be another film based on a social subject by Murugadoss. This yet-untitled project is slated to be released by the end of 2019.
Indian 2
This is now the most talked about Tamil film in Indian cinema. Shankar and Kamal Haasan come back together after almost two decades for the sequel of Indian which released in 1996. The shooting of Indian 2 will kick off in January 2019 and the film is expected to hit the screens by the end of the year.
