From Vicky Kaushal’s Uri to Kangana Ranaut’s Manikarnika - filmmakers have ensured we spend January 2019 at the movies

There was a time when Bollywood used to shy away from releasing big projects in January. The trend slowly changed when stars like Akshay Kumar began releasing patriotic movies just in time for Republic Day. Shah Rukh Khan joined the bandwagon of January releases when his movie Raees took over the last weekend of January in 2017. Padmaavat took over the last weekend of 2018 and set the ball rolling at the box office. However, January 2019 is all set to paint a different picture. This year, the box office will get busy from January s second weekend itself.

January 2019 might not have the Khans, the Kapoors or the only Kumar releasing a movie but there are movies releasing this month which have generated a good buzz. Which are those movies? Here s a look at those five movies that we re interested in...

Uri: The Surgical Attack

The Vicky Kaushal-starrer is based on the surgical attack which took place in 2016. The trailer has got everyone excited. To top it off, Vicky s performances in 2018 has got everyone looking forward to what he has to offer in his new project. The movie also stars Yami Gautham and Paresh Rawal. It releases on January 11.

The Accidental Prime Minister

The moment we saw the trailer featuring Anupam Kher in the lead, we knew that this was going to be a release to watch out for. The movie is based on the book which goes by the same name and elaborates on events that took place in former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh s life during his tenure as the PM of India. While this is a controversial topic in terms of politics, we re keen on seeing how actors like Akshaye Khanna, Suzanne Bernert, Aahana Kumra and Arjun Mathur bring these political figures to life. The movie releases on January 11.

Thackeray

After he bowled everyone over with his Ganesh Gaitonde act in Sacred Games and won us over with his portrayal of Saadat Hasan Manto in Manto, Nawazuddin Siddiqui is ready to bring one of the most powerful political leaders story to life. We re talking about his portrayal of Bal Thackeray in the movie Thackeray. The trailer has got everyone talking and we re sure it is going to make a lot more noise as the release date nears. The biopic releases on January 25.

Cheat India

Emraan Hashmi has returned with his money game in Cheat India. Only this time, he has the education system involved. The actor, who has been seen dabbling in match-fixing in his previous films, is coming in January to shed some light on the education scam that we ve heard in the news before. The trailer is impressive, and it has left us curious. The movie releases on January 25.

Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi

The month of January also has another biopic in its kitty. Keeping in mind the theme of patriotism, Kangana Ranaut is all set to tell the story of Manikarnika, popularly known as Rani Lakshmi Bai. The trailer rolled out a few days ago and it had some outstanding moments, which hinted that the movie could be a visual treat. The film is set to release on January 25.
