Zero box office collections day 1: Shah Rukh Khan's film opens on a decent note; earns Rs 20.14 crore

Zero released amidst much fanfare yesterday, on December 21. Ever since it was announced that Shah Rukh Khan was going to play a dwarf in an Aanand L Rai film, we couldn't contain our excitement. And everything culminated when we witnessed the spectacle on screen. The magic spell cast by the makers and the actors has to be seen to be believed. While the film has opened to mixed reviews, the performances, and the visual experience is being unanimously praised by all. The hype around the film and the reviews seem to have helped the film begin its box office journey on a decent note.

The film has minted Rs 20.41 crore on day 1, which is decent considering it was a working Friday for most. However, considering Zero had received 4800 screens, the numbers can be a little humbling. Trade analyst, Taran Adarsh, tweeted this morning reiterating the same, adding that the film will have to pick up over the weekend. Check out his tweet here:

Well, the film certainly does have the weekend and the Christmas day holiday to look forward to and make the most of. Guess the makers should continue to promote the film to keep the buzz alive and inspire the audience to flock to the theatres.

In a two-and-a-half star review, BollywoodLife's Editor-in-Chief, Tushar P Joshi wrote, "Zero has ambition written all across it in big bold letters! Clearly, the film must have seemed impossible to make on paper but with SRK at the helm, that word doesn't exist in his dictionary. Bringing someone like Aanand L Rai to the table gives the film a unique edge and a freshness that he brings to his stories. We have watched Shah Rukh play an obsessive fan but to watch him as a dwarf on the big screen does take a lot of suspension of belief. I don't see any other actor pulling this character off and doing him justice the way Shah Rukh does. Zero has heart and humour. It also has some fine performances by its three superstar actors. Watch it if you are in mood for a different take on love with an intergalactic experience."

Have you watched the film yet?
