Aamir Khan to play Krishna in Mahabharata next; Shah Rukh Khan spills the beans

Aamir Khan might have had a low year so far, what with the debacle of his Diwali release, Thugs of Hindostan, but he is certainly not letting it affect him or his career. Like the true blue perfectionist that he is, he is already working on his next - the ambitious project, Mahabharata. Now we have been hearing about this project for a long time now and there even were talks of it never seeing the light of the day due to the sheer scale of the project. However, if Shah Rukh Khan is to be believed then the project is happening. Confused? Let us explain...

Shah Rukh, while chatting with DNA, revealed that his dream role would be to play Krishna in Mahabharata. But, then comes the interesting part. SRK added, "Krishna from Mahabharata has already been taken by Aamir so I will not be able to do that." Well, well, now that's some revelation right there. Aamir had always expressed a desire to play Krishna as that is apparently what his mother also calls him as. He has revealed in previous interviews that he finds himself capable of playing the character. With SRK's confession, seems like Aamir finally got his wish.

Aamir is keen to make a film on this epic story, however, he did not want to make it just for the sake of it. Apparently, he wants to make Mahabharata into India's best film to date. He wants to make it into a franchise that is made on a grand scale like Hollywood series like The Lord of the Rings or Game of Thrones. It might even be released as a seven-part web-series.

But that's not the only Mahabharata in the making. Malayalam superstar, Mohanlal, has confirmed the making of Mahabharata, based on MT Vasudevan Nair's book - Randamoozham. The film will be narrated from Bheem's perspective and his role will be taken on by Mohanlal. The film is expected to be made in two parts. The movie is expected to release in 2019, and 90 days after the first part's release, Part 2 will hit theatres. The film will release in multiple languages.

Now, it remains to be seen as to which version goes on the floors first.
