With earnings of Rs 253.25 crore through his film releases, television appearances and brand endorsements between October 1, 2017, and September 30, 2018, Salman Khan has become India s highest-paid celebrity on the magazine's list for the third consecutive year. While we are not very surprised with this news, what is amazing is that this time, a sportsman has proved to be a tough competition for the superstar. It's none other than Virat Kohli who has bagged the second position with Rs 228.09 crore in earnings, followed by Akshay Kumar with Rs 185 crore at the third spot. Also, with cumulative earnings being Rs 3,140.25 crore, it seemed to be a lucrative year for celebrities on the list as last year, the earnings had been 17 per cent lower at Rs 2,683 crore. Unfortunately, Shah Rukh Khan lost his second spot from last year as he did not have any releases during the reviewed period. However, despite his earnings dropping to Rs 56 crore, he is at No 13. And so is the case with teh new bride Priyanka Chopra who has gone from No 7 last year (Rs 68 crore) straight to No 49 (Rs 18 crore) in 2018. But the other new bride, Deepika Padukone, has managed to become the highest-earning woman celebrity at No 4 with total earnings of Rs 112.8 crore. She is the first woman to break reach the top five positions since the inception of the List in 2012. However, there are 18 women who have made it to this list this year, down from 21 in 2017.
Meanwhile, cricketing legend Sachin Tendulkar has maintained his consistency with featuring in the top 10 every year. Though he retired in 2013, his earnings stood at Rs 80 crore this year compared to the average of Rs 73.12 crore during the last seven years. Stardom surely can leave you amazed and amused right?
