2018 is over... yes, it's time you accept that fact. And now that you have allowed yourself to accept it, we are here to tell you who were the most successful actors of this year. 2018 has been a year of content. If films had stories, audience watched it in hordes. That helped many actors like Rajkummar Rao, Vicky Kaushal, Ayushmann Khurrana get their first Rs 100 crore films. Even Amitabh Bachchan and Rajinikanth got their first Rs 100 crore films in their career. So this year has been truly educational in many ways. But never has Bollywood seen such an amazing amalgamation of content and box office. The films which were supposed to be made for a niche audience did crackling business at the box office while biggies failed. - Akshay Kumar (Pad Man, Gold, 2.0 - Rs 370.29 crore)
Akshay Kumar is one actor who has maintained his string of successes at the box office for many years now. Trade has named him the ATM of Bollywood because, every movie of his earns at least Rs 70 crore or more. 2018 began with Pad Man, a film which got major acclaim but didn't quite see much box office adulation. Still, since all Akshay films are made on a controlled budget, Pad Man didn't lose much. His Independence Day release Gold went bigger and earned over Rs 100 crore, despite sharing screens with Satyameva Jayate. And finally when 2.0 released last month, Akshay catapulted to the top of the tally.
2. Ranbir Kapoor (Sanju - Rs 342.53)
Ranbir Kapoor silenced everyone this year with Sanju, the highest grossing Hindi film of 2018. Post a few debacles like Jagga Jasoos, many had started doubting his ability to make big box office bucks. Sanju, a biopic on Sanju Dutt, broke many records for the actor himself. He got his life's biggest hit ever.
3. Ranveer Singh (Padmaavat - Rs 302.15)
Ranveer Singh has been on a high since the past few years. With Sanjay Leela Bhansali, he not only casts a spell on the audience but at the box office as well. Padmaavat was no different. Despite many protests, agitations and violence, the film released last January and became a raging hit. It hadn't even released at many major centres owing to the controversy but yet it managed to score Rs 100 crore and more within days. Ranveer is here to stay... he is now one of the most successful young actors of the industry.
4. Ayushmann Khurrana (Andhadhun, Badhaai Ho - Rs 211.79 crore)
Every year, we see someone emerge victorious and take you by surprise. Ayushmann Khurrana was one such actor. With two films, both bonafide hits, Ayushmann has managed to secure a place in the top 5 successful actors of this year. That's simply incredible! He has a way of choosing scripts others might think twice about. Andhadhun had him playing a blind pianist caught in a mess while Badhaai Ho saw him as a son grappling with the fact that his parents have an active sex life.
5. Salman Khan (Race 3 - Rs 166.40 crore)
Are you surprised to see Salman Khan on this list? Well, don't be! He is the only Khan in the industry who can deliver a flop and still make it earn Rs 100 crore and more. That's why Salman deserves to be on this list.
