South Indian film industry woke up to the shocking news of veteran Kannada actor Ambareesh passing away on Sunday. One of the pillars of Kannada film industry, Ambareesh breathed his last at a private hospital in Bengaluru after he suffered a cardiac arrest. South Indian film industry has been mourning the loss of the veteran actor. The final rites of Ambareesh will be held today in Bengaluru at Kanteerava Studios and is expected to witness a huge attendance from fans and friends. Kannada actors like Puneeth Rajkumar, Darshan, Sudeep, Ganesh and many others visited Ambareesh's residence in Bengaluru and consoled the grieving family. He is survived by wife Sumalatha and son Abhishek. The actor was a guiding force and an inspiration to many current generation of actors in Kannada. He was the last surviving actor from the generation of Rajkumar, Vishnuvardhan and many others.

Ambareesh had last acted alongside Sudeep in Ambi Ninge Vayasaitho which is the Kannada remake of Tamil hit, Power Paandi. The original was the directorial debut of actor Dhanush and starred Rajkiran and Revathy in lead roles. Power Paandi was a superhit in Tamil and director Dhanush was lauded for his directorial skills.
