The first major release of 2019 are two big Tamil ventures Petta and Viswasam, which arrived yesterday at the ticket windows. Both the films, which feature mega massy stars like Thala Ajith and Thalaivar Rajinikanth opened to thunderous responses at the box office. With humongous buzz and hype, both the ventures opened to a phenomenal response and shattered many records at the ticket windows though Rajinikanth's Petta has performed slightly better than Thala Ajith's Viswasam. While Petta has grossed around Rs 48 crore on its first day, Viswasam raked in Rs 43 crore on its opening day at the worldwide box office.

Both the films have received positive reviews from the cinegoers and will enter the Rs 100 crore club in their opening weekend at the global market. Petta has also performed better than Viswasam at the Chennai market, which was expected as maximum screens were alloted to the Rajinikanth starrer.
Talking about Petta, the film is shot in Dehradun, Chennai and Lucknow. It features the ensemble star cast of Vijay Sethupathi, Trisha, Simran Bagga, Bobby Simha, Megha Akash, Sanath Reddy and Nawazuddin Siddiqi. On the other hand, Viswasam brings Ajith and Nayanthara together after more than five years. It marks the fourth collaboration between Ajith and director Siva after crackling hits like Vedhalam, Veeram and Vivegam.
