Dhanush is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Maari 2 which is directed by Balaji Mohan. The film is a sequel to the 2015 release with the same title starring Dhanush and Kajal Aggarwal. Much to the joy of fans, Dhanush has now announced the release date of the sequel. Maari 2 will release on December 21st, 2018 which is the long weekend during Christmas. Fans were eagerly waiting for an update about Maari 2 and Dhanush s announcement has sent them into a frenzy. Maari 2 had completed censor formalities and was just a step away from releasing but the makers took their time to decide the release date. Besides Dhanush, Maari 2 stars Sai Pallavi as the leading lady while Varalaxmi Sarathkumar will be seen portraying an important role. Maari 2 is being produced by Dhanush himself under his banner Wunderbar Films.

Maari 2 will have Dhanush playing the street-smart gangster in rural Chennai and will be seen sporting the handlebar moustache. This look of Dhanush from the first part was much loved by fans of the actor making it a very popular look. Maari 2 also features Malayalam actor Tovino Thomas and the young sensation will be seen playing the antagonist. Maari 2 will mark the debut of Tovino Thomas in Tamil cinema and his fans are quite excited about this. The music of Maari 2 is being composed by Yuvan Shankar Raja and the album is expected to be a feast for the fans. The makers had recently released the first single, Rowdy Baby, from Maari 2 which became an instant hit with fans.
