Here's why Zero director Aanand L Rai feels that Shah Rukh Khan is 'middle-class at heart'

December is a treat for movie-lovers with films like Zero, Simmba, KGF and Maari 2 for movie lovers across the country. One of the most-anticipated films is Zero that stars Shah Rukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma. Filmmaker Aanand L Rai has been gushing over working with Shah Rukh Khan for the first time. So far, he has only worked with Kangana Ranaut, Jimmy Sheirgill and R Madhavan. This is the first time, he is working with big stars like SRK and Katrina. In an interview to Scroll.in, he said, "I felt this story deserves a certain kind of making. It has a dreamy, fairytale-like feel. It deserves a bigger audience. The story needed the mounting, which this cast gave me, and the story needed Shah Rukh, Katrina and Anushka. You call it a gamble; I call it casting.''

Whether it was Tanu Weds Manu which was set in Kanpur or Ranjhanaa that was based in Benaras, he has made stories centered around India's small towns. Rai told the portal, "I believe it is not about Benaras, Kanpur, Haryana or Meerut. It is about people. Maybe I understand people from that space very well. Khan saab is still very Delhi. I always tell him that no matter how much you show Mannat [his bungalow in Bandra], at heart you are middle class. His roots are intact."

He is also extremely impressed by SRK's dedication towards his work. He has called him one of the "purest actors" around. He said, "As an actor, he is one of the purest I have worked with. He is a proud actor who will never ask why he should do it. He will do it. At the most, he will ask you how. He is very dedicated." Stay tuned to BL for more updates!
