Kedarnath box office collection day 3: Sushant Singh Rajput-Sara Ali Khan-starrer is going steady; earns Rs 27.75 crore

Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan's Kedarnath released last Friday. It belongs to the disaster romantic drama genre as it has the Uttarakhand floods of 2013 as its backdrop. Interestingly, the film itself went through a lot of trauma before it could hit the theatre. It changed hands after director Abhishek Kapoor and the producers got into a tussle regarding its release date. Thankfully, it made it to the screens and the day 1 numbers saw good trending. Our Trade expert was expecting Rs 6-6.5 crore in the first day but Kedarnath bettered it. The film earned a good Rs 7.25 crore. The second day saw good hike as well but we can't say the same for the Sunday numbers. Although there is a slight increase in collections, it isn't as grand as was expected. In three days, the film has managed to earn only Rs 27.75 crore at the box office.

Our Trade Analyst Amul Vikas Mohan, Editor Super Cinema, had predicted that the first day collections will be good and if the trending continues, the film will manage to make a great total. But he did mention how the high budget of the movie might make it a bit difficult for the film to recover its investment. "The budget of Kedarnath is really high, we all know that. That could be a problem. But I still feel this kind of opening is pretty decent for a film with a newcomer in the lead. The budget is high because it has changed hands twice and all of that. And then how much went into P&A. So if you consider that, the Rs 6-6.5 crore opening is slightly lower. It is always going to be a word of mouth kind of a film. It's a romantic film but is also from the disaster genre. These films are generally called slow burners," explained Mohan.
