Aquaman: Jason Momoa starrer BEATS Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman at China box office; becomes the HIGHEST grossing DC movie

It is yet to even release in the US and India, and Aquaman is already inching towards the $100 million mark. The Jason Momoa and Amber Heard movie released well in advance in China and it has won the Chinese box office already. The James Wan directorial hosted its world premiere a few days ago and it has garnered good reviews. While we knew that the critics had enjoyed Aquaman, it was to see if the movie could wash itself off the failure of Justice League and boy, it has not only washed away but ruled the high tides of China.

The movie debuted in the Middle Kingdom last weekend and it has already earned $94 million, as per Forbes. Aquaman earned about $9.7 million in IMAX alone. If you thought that was big, you d be stunned to know the kind of movies Aquaman has surpassed at the box office. The DC movie has not only beat Wonder Woman s opening box office collection in China by a huge margin, it has already made more money in its first weekend to have surpassed the lifetime earnings of the Gal Gadot starrer in the country.

As per Box Office Mojo, Wonder Woman earned about $90.4 million in its run at the China Box Office. That s not all. Aquaman is all set to surpass Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice s lifetime collection in the country. BvS poses a collection of $95 million in China.

Thus, Aquaman has registered WB s biggest debut ever in China. Aquaman s collection places the movie among the 20 biggest opening weekend collection movies in China. The movie would find a spot below Jurassic World, Venom and Transformers: The Last Knight to name a few.

This is definitely a great start for the DC movie. It is to see how much India would contribute towards the worldwide box office collection. Aquaman is set to release this weekend, December 14, in India and the US.
