Exclusive! “I will be talking of the time I went bankrupt,” says Vir Das about his next project, Losing It, a digital stand-up comedy special

Vir Das was last seen in the Netflix comedy special Abroad Understanding in 2017 and while he was missing from the stand-up comedy scene during the last year, he is back! The 39-year-old comedian-actor is coming up with another comedy special with Netflix titled Losing It. But Vir, who is currently shooting for his first American TV show Whiskey Cavalier, is planning to get back to his stand-up comedy space. The actor has been shooting for the TV show that will air in April 2019. Vir will play a spy in a team of spies that saves the world every week. When asked about his experience of playing a spy for the first time, the cheeky actor says, It feels good to wear a suit, fire some guns and save the world. But after shooting for the American show till December 20, Vir plans to stay back home. Having travelled about 33 countries for his stand-up shows and having done a very large India tour as well, the comedian is in desperate need for some India-time and home-time.

Talking about his upcoming show, Losing It, the comedian-actor elaborated, It is largely about re-questioning your perspective in life and I will be talking about broad themes like career, religion, politics, childhood, growing up in Africa, falling sick, dishonesty and even about the time I went bankrupt. I will be taking references from my real life as I learnt a lot while travelling. I felt like I had been shooting too much and hadn t been able to give stand-up too much justice. So, I decided to do this show. Last year was all about stand-up and this year was about acting. So, I am going to make the next year about stand-up again.

When we asked the actor if he preferred stand-up comedy or acting, he quickly answered, Acting is a very collaborative art form. There are a lot of people working hard to make you better at what you are doing. But when it comes to stand up, you are standing alone out there. So, if you are looking for space then stand up is nice but if you are looking to be around people and collaboration then acting is good. And a healthy balance of both is what I am looking at. Well that s a great answer Vir.

Meanwhile, Vir who also owns a comedy consultancy company and is part of a band, informed that he plans to produce 8-9 projects in the next 2 years and also create some new music. However, some acting assignments will have to be completed first. The sequel to his 2013 hit film Go Goa Gone, which featured Saif Ali Khan, Kunal Kemmu, Pooja Gupta and Anand Tiwari, will also go on the floors sometime next year. He has also written a web series titled Hasmukh which is being co-produced by Nikkhil Advani and in which he plays a spy. It will be a suspense thriller.

Well, we wish him all the luck as he seems to have a lot on his plate. Keep it up Vir!
