#BLBestof2018: Thugs Of Hindostan, Sanju, Race 3, Baaghi 2 - Check out the top five Highest Opening Day collections of 2018

2018 wraps up in a few days and we are here to tell you how Bollywood fared this year. Well, it did only a wee bit better than last year. It could have been a great year what with all the three Khans releasing a movie each on three of the biggest festival dates. But they faltered, and the overall collections of the year dipped. What kept things interesting at the box office were the small-town content-driven films. Be it Stree or Andhadhun or Badhaai Ho, all these movies worked because the audience today is hungry only for good cinematic stories rather than just glamour. But despite all that, the top 5 slots in the Highest Opening Day Collection tally went to a few films that eventually tanked. Prepared to get surprised, stunned and shocked? Here they are

Thugs Of Hindostan

Day 1: Rs 52.25 crore

No kidding... Thugs Of Hindostan did register a mammoth first day total of Rs 52.25 crore. Before that, it was Shah Rukh Khan's Happy New Year which had the good fortune of keeping the top spot in all-time high day 1 number with Rs 44.95 crore. Since it released during Diwali, Thugs managed to scoop up a huge total and the saga ends there. Today, it is one of the biggest flops of Indian cinema.

Sanju

Day 1: Rs 34.75 crore

Everyone was in two minds as to why a biopic on Sanjay Dutt's life is necessary as more or less everything about him was out in the open. But Rajkumar Hirani and Ranbir Kapoor's combo got an explosive reaction from people which led the film to open with the second-best day 1 number of this year. That's not it! Sanju even went on to become the highest grossing film of 2018 with over Rs 300 crore in its kitty.

Race 3

Day 1: Rs 28.50 crore

Again, no kidding! Salman Khan's film must have been the most trolled one this year, but it has managed to secure the third place in this tally. We obviously have the star's superpower to thank for that because everything else was plain bad!

Gold

Day 1: Rs 25.25 crore

Akshay Kumar sticks to the Independence Day date this year with Gold. That film did strike gold at the box office. Despite clashing with John Abraham's Satyameva Jayate, the film managed to have a solid run at the theatres.

Baaghi 2

Day 1: Rs 25.10

When Tiger Shroff's Baaghi 2 released in April, it registered the highest opening day numbers of 2018. It obviously was defeated by the films listed above by the end of the year, but that definitely is a huge feat. No wonder that Baaghi 3's first look is already out.
