#BLBestof2018: From female masturbation to geriatric pregnancy - here’s how Bollywood came of age in 2018

We are inching towards the end of the year. The official countdown to 2019 has begun and like every year, we look back at what a year it has been for Bollywood. 2018 has witnessed a potpourri of films releasing. We stood witness to the controversial Padmaavat s release, we watched the Khans try their best to woo fans (we are yet to see the verdict fans have about Zero) and we saw a year packed with renditions.

But 2018 would be remembered for more than renditions and the Khans. This year Bollywood pushed the audience to talk about women s sexual needs, B-Town lifted the blinkers and addressed harassment and parent s bedroom moments were not personal anymore and boy, we loved every bit of it! So, here s a look back at how Bollywood came of age in 2018.

Why should boys have all the fun?

Yes, women were clear in 2018 that they are tired of letting boys have all the fun. This year they took matters into their own hands and decided to have fun outside and inside the bedroom. Veere Di Wedding finally broke silence over female masturbation and Lust Stories took it a notch higher. Both Swara Bhasker and Kiara Advani spoke on behalf of every women when they held that dildo in their hands and demanded that they be given the pleasure that every man asks for. We never thought that our group chats would have discussed sex toys. Shh!

Love isn t just for the young gen!

When we stepped into 2018, not even in our wildest dreams did we think that we d end up discussing about our parents sex life. But Ayushmann Khurrana and Neena Gupta made us not only think of it but also, in some homes, open the discussion on the topic. As awkward as it felt, it was refreshing to see that the movie put so many things in perspective, especially the fact that we need to accept that our parents have a sex life.

You don t need sex to sell horror

Stree

Pull out horror movies in the past few years and you ll notice that almost all these movies have an element of sex included in it. What does sex have to do with horror? Anyway, while we were tortured through the horrex (horror sex) through the years, Stree proved that you need a good script to deliver a blockbuster horror movie.

Audience refused to get thugged by a Khan

We walked into the year keeping three Khan movies in mind. While we were unsure about Race 3 s performance, we were banking upon Aamir Khan to rule the box office with Thugs of Hindostan. After all, he was the only Khan who had not failed us for ten years. However, his antics to impress the audience failed and as history has it, even an Aamir couldn t stop the audience from moving on to good movies.

#MeToo: Echoed Bollywood:

Just when we thought it would be another year when everyone would have spoken about how #MeToo is far from happening, Tanushree Dutta took a step and paved the way for India s #MeToo movement. Men were called out, actions were taken and we applauded everyone who took a stand and spoke up.
