Thalapathy Vijay's Sarkar has shattered many box office records at the ticket windows. Not only in the domestic market, the political thriller has set new benchmarks in the international circuits as well. Looking at the grand opening, we had expected that it will surpass the business of Mersal to become the highest grosser of the superstar. But surprising, it has failed to do so at least in the American market.

While Sarkar, which is near its theatrical end, has earned just over a $ million till now, Mersal had collected over $ 1.3 million during its theatrical run. Though the film has achieved many milestones at the global box office. It has already crossed the Rs 200 crore mark at the global box office and has become the second Tamil film to do that after Rajinikanth's Kaala. Apparently, the film had got 3500 screens and has been released across 80 countries, thus making it widest Tamil release ever. Though Akshay Kumar and Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 has reportedly broken the record with the whopping screen count of around 10000. As per the moviegoers, the commercial entertainer shows us the massy and swag avatar of Thalapathy Vijay.
