As the madness around Rajinikanth s next film Petta is on the rise, his previous release 2.0 is on a rollercoaster ride. 2.0 has set a new record at Chennai box office. 2.0 becomes the first film to earn a gross collection of Rs 20 crore in Chennai city alone which does not include the Telugu or the Hindi version. This amount of collection in Chennai city is for the Tamil film alone and is a new record now. This feat by 2.0 beats the previous record of Rs 17 crore which was set by Vijay-starrer Mersal. 2.0 is now being termed as a blockbuster hit after the film has now earned a worldwide collection of more than Rs 620 crore. 2.0 is also the first ever Akshay Kumar film to have earned a gross collection of Rs 100 crore right on the first day of release. 2.0 is the fifth film of Rajinikanth to have earned a collection of more than Rs 100 crore.

Directed by Shankar, 2.0 is a sequel to the 2010 film Enthiran which starred Rajinikanth and Aishwarya Rai in lead roles. Enthiran was dubbed into Hindi as Robot and the film did great business at the box office. The film stars Akshay Kumar in an interesting role and his look in the film has been catching all the attention. This magnum opus will mark the debut of the Bollywood star in Tamil cinema.
