Veteran Kannada Loknath actor passes away at 90; film industry mourns the loss

Veteran Kannada actor Lokanth passed away today after suffering a cardiac arrest at his residence in Bengaluru. The actor was reportedly suffering from age-related ailments and was being treated for the same for a long time. Loknath is popular for his roles in superhit Kannada films like Nagarahaavu, Pushpaka Vimana, Nodi Swami Navidru Heege, Katha Sangama, Bangaarada Manushya and Kittu Puttu. His son, Ashwin, said that his father was fine till Sunday night but things went bad suddenly on Monday morning.

"He was perfectly fine the night before and was walking around. He looked alert. He also attended Ambareesh's funeral. He was old," Ashwin was quoted as saying to TheNewsMinute. Loknath is survived by a son and four daughters who are in different professions. The mortal remains of the veteran actor will be placed at Ravindra Kalakshetra in Bengaluru till Monday 12.30 pm for fans to pay their final tributes.

Besides acting in mainstream Kannada cinema, the veteran actor has acted in more than 1000 Kannada plays and is also known for his role in the nation-wide popular 90 s TV show Malgudi Days which was directed by another veteran Shankar Nag. The Kannada film industry is mourning the loss of the actor and condolence messages have been pouring in from all over.
